Condition:

The canvas is lined and is stable on its stretcher. The decorative image reads well overall, with many details well-preserved, beneath an old and yellowed varnish. The painting has not been recently restored. There are some faint vertical lines to the canvas that appear in raking light, though these are not distracting. There is a very small loss in the lower right corner, and a repair near the upper left edge. Inspection under UV reveals a somewhat milky varnish that impedes some inspection. Much of the more recent restoration is concentrated in the sky, and some of these retouches, which are somewhat broadly applied in areas, have discolored and are visible to the naked eye. There are some additional very small and scattered spots of retouching here and there in the architectural features in the foreground and along the left edge. Some spots are visible along the edges to address old frame abrasion, one spot of retouching in the lower column near center, but otherwise the remaining spots are few and far between and are largely cosmetic. Offered in gilt frame with some decorative elements. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale.
